Nevada Joe is a wild mustang adopted from the Federal Bureau of Land Management in 2002 as part of the Wild Horse Project. The Wahl Corporation brought Nevada Joe to its Equestrian Center and trained him to become a member of the equine society. Horse enthusiasts followed Joe’s extraordinary progress for twelve consecutive months in the pages of Horse Illustrated magazine in the year 2002.
Since leaving the Wahl Equestrian Center Nevada Joe has experienced numerous equine disciplines and has been keeping Ernie & Diane Purcelli busy training him for these new events. He was featured at the Dodge World Toughest Rodeos where barrel racing caught his eye so he participated in a Sharon Camarillo Clinic at Black Hawk College located in Kewanee, IL. Next he found Cowboy Mounted Shooting a new challenge and entered the CMSA Nationals in Tunica, MS with Diane in the Rifle competition. He also entered the Ladies 1 Division with Kim Riege of Deerfield, WI and won Reserve Champion. This November Ernie & Joe competed and placed at the Arizona State Finals Mounted shooting competition. While Nevada Joe was in IL he found something very fun happening at the Wahl Equestrian Center with it being the new home of Tommie Turvie, Jr. So Diane and Joe enrolled in the week long clinic to learn new horse tricks and trick riding. Then over the summer months Joe got involved with the Montana Junior Rodeo circuit and paired up with Sierra Gandy of Hamilton, MT and they competed in the Goat Tying and ended the season in 3rd place.
Currently Nevada Joe is at home in Darby, MT at the “Shooting Star Ranch” with the Purcelli’s and has been trained as a Therapeutic Riding horse for disabled riders. 2008 you will find Nevada Joe as the “Ambassador for NARHA” and traveling throughout the country educating people about
